Choosing new partners and expanding the reach of the True Health Foundation is one of our key priorities. Many times it’s a struggle to find the most effective and efficient partners that can help us make the greatest impact. The following is an email report we received from our staff in the Philippines. Gen Blasurca and Lizbeth Jose have been our champions for the Foundation for quite some time and have been instrumental in helping children get the food and nutrition they need through their feeding programs. It looks like Project Pearls may be our next great effort at reaching more of these children.
“Gen and I went to the Project Pearls site Saturday morning. Monica and her team were there to welcome us. We were not prepared to walk on the muddy road leading to the site. Good thing they were ready for us with extra rubber boots. We arrived early so they were able to tour us around. We saw the small clinic they had recently built, with cabinets full of medicines donated by various organizations. As early as 8am, kids were already lined up for the feeding session. They had with them food containers so they would be able to share their food with the rest of their family members. Foreign volunteers were there to do the mural painting. We helped out with the food distribution. We also did arts and craft with the kids. Lastly, we distributed candies and chocolates before they all went back home.
It was an emotionally draining day for Gen and I. Seeing the sad plight of the kids. Most of them get by with only one meal each day. But, we were consoled by the fact that a lot of organizations, both local and foreign, are reaching out to them. The place is stinky and muddy, it must be a daily struggle for all the volunteers but what warmed our hearts was to see no one really complaining and how happy they were from serving the kids.
According to Monica, they need volunteer doctors and dentists. They also need children’s vitamins after each feeding. We plan to help in these areas of need.
I will work with Gen on a project plan on this so we can already start with our partnership with Project Pearls. This is one very worthy cause worth championing.”
